Who is Family Chef?
At the beginning, and we are at the beginning, it's more important to know what Family Chef does than who Family Chef is. Family Chef believes in protecting the central role of dinner in family life by preparing food that is worth coming together for.
Sitting down and eating together does something important, it gives families time with one another. Time to talk, argue, listen, laugh, discover what happened today and what is planned for tomorrow.
Those small moments repeated often enough become rituals. Rituals become memories, provide a sense of grounding, and become what makes each family unique.
But creating a meal from scratch every evening takes time. Planning, shopping and cooking with good seasonal ingredients is demanding enough, before you even consider creating a weekly menu that is varied, delicious, healthy and nutritious.
Every meal follows the Balanced Plate Doctrine. A simple idea that every dinner should contain protein, grain and two vegetables so if you eat all that goodness then you deserve a delicious sweet to finish. That is the experience.
Family Chef also believes in variety. In a world with almost limitless choice it is surprisingly easy to eat the same thing again and again.
So every week has a theme and every menu has a point of view. Some dishes will be familiar, others less so. Family Chef does the choosing, leaving your family to do the discovering.
And Family Chef knows when to stop. Every household we cook for has its own Table, whether that's one person or a family of six. What matters to our kitchen is the number of Places we can properly prepare for. So each week has a limited number of Places available. As Family Chef grows, that number will grow too, but never at the expense of the food.
As to who Family Chef actually is?
We have plenty of time to discover that.
